Hold My Beer – it’s National Beer Day!

April 4, 2019
April 7 is National Beer Day and while we’re an area known for award-winning wines, we’re seeing more local microbreweries and taphouses hopping up in the Tri-Cities (see what we did there?).

The unofficial holiday marks the day that beer was allowed to be legally manufactured and sold in the country after a years-long dry spell. Fans of this particular day even created a precursor – New Beer’s Eve – so people can start celebrating early!

To honor the intoxicatingly jovial holiday, we’ve put together a list of 7 fun beer facts you may not have known of! So hold our beer while we serve up some interesting nuggets of info on this hoppy drink!

1 - Lager is the most common style of beer, while Ales are the oldest.
2 - The first modern American IPA was Anchor Liberty Ale.
3 - North Dakota drinks more beer than anyone. Don’t worry, we’re curious about this as well.
4 - Mississippi and Alabama legalized homebrewing in 2013.
5 - Grass straws were invented by the Sumerians for drinking beer to avoid sediment.
6 - During Prohibition, people were prescribed “medical beer.”
7 - The moon has a crater named Beer.
