10,000 Km is a tale of love, distance, and technology. Alex and Sergi, a young Barcelona couple are thinking about starting a family when Alex, a photographer, is offered a one-year artistic residency in Los Angeles. The couple decide that Alex should go, though Sergi is unable to join her. Thus begins a long-distance relationship in which they find that modern technology has its limits in bridging the distance between them.

Director Carlos Marques-Marcet's debut film impresses from its first shot, a 23-minute long take introducing us to this couple in their apartment and providing the foundation for the rest of the story, in which Alex is in Los Angeles; Sergi remains in Barcelona; and phone calls, texts, and video calls provide the links between the two. 10,000 Km is an intelligent, honest, and thoughtful film; a skillfully-told examination of one couple's long-distance relationship.

The film won numerous awards including the 2014 Grand Jury Prize for Best New Director at the Seattle International Film Festival. The Jury's statement:

Our unanimous winner is Carlos Marques-Marcet’s 10.000 Km for its ability to simply and creatively convey the complexity and fragility of human relationships with gorgeous attention to detail.

It's disarming and enchanting, and unlike any romance captured on the screen in recent memory. 10,000 Km is a remarkable achievement in filmmaking. (Chris Evangelista, at www.cutprintfilm.com)
