Combining the beauty of traditional soul with the power of rock, mixed with his talkbox stylings, Thaddeus has gained a loyal national following. As lead guitarist for the Seattle Heavy Soul band Maktub, Turner has received glowing praise from Rolling Stone Magazine, NPR and the Seattle Times. Turner has toured with such notables as Cherrywine, Stone Gossard from Pearl Jam, Digable Planets, as well as with Dave Matthews and India.Arie. His versatility as a guitar player has gained him national recognition for his unique sound and passionate playing.

Thaddillac (aka Thaddeus Turner) has been tearing up the Seattle music scene for years as both a live performer and respected studio musician. Often compared to the diverse guitar stylings of Jimi Hendrix, Prince and Peter Frampton, Thaddeus Turner’s trademark guitar playing is the pillar of the West Coast music scene.

Until you have seen Scott Pemberton play the guitar it is hard to describe what he does. His music comes from the heart, is very danceable and quite honestly, no one plays the guitar like him. He gets regular comparisons to other great musicians such as Jimi Hendrix, Dick Dale, and James Brown, but after a brief listen it is clear that Scott has something all his own.

Presented by Ed Robertson and Jason Bond Tuesday, May 13 7:00PM Richland Public Library Ed Robertson is a writer of science fiction and fantasy under the somewhat lengthier name Edward W. Robertson. He is best known for his post-apocalyptic Breakers series, but his expansive lightsaber collection surely rates a close second. Like most authors, he has lived places and had jobs. Currently, he lives in Los Angeles, and his job is writing books, which is excellent. When he is not writing, he is usually walking his dogs, which are as ill-mannered as they are small, or blathering about self-publishing, which he finds fascinating to a truly nerdy degree. Bestselling author Jason Andrew Bond grew up in Oregon and currently lives in Washington State with his wife and son. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of Oregon and an MBA from the University of Colorado. When his first novel Hammerhead unexpectedly reached bestseller status, he dedicated twenty-five percent of his profits to disabled U.S. veterans. Jason's third novel, Hammerhead Resurrection, is currently in editing. Jason takes a hands-on approach to writing. When SCUBA research couldn't wait for summer, he found himself certifying in Puget Sound's frigid January waters. Outside of writing and his family, martial arts are an important part of his life. At eighteen years of age he entered an Aikido dojo for the first time, and has since trained in Jeet Kune Do, Tae Kwon Do, Shudokan Karate, Goshin Jutsu, Judo, and Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu.

He grew up in Fresno and San Diego and attended National University in San Diego, where he majored in computer science. Nesbitt’s poetry for children is “irrepressible, unpredictable, and raucously popular,” in the words of former Children’s Poet Laureate J. Patrick Lewis. Nesbitt’s poems frequently deal with humorous, relatable situations that verge on the madcap. He is the author of numerous books of poetry for children, including The Armpit of Doom: Funny Poems for Kids (2013), The Ultimate Top Secret Guide to Taking Over the World (2011), The Tighty-Whitey Spider (2010), Revenge of the Lunch Ladies (2007), Santa Got Stuck in the Chimney (2006), When the Teacher Isn’t Looking: And Other Funny School Poems (2005), and The Aliens Have Landed at Our School! (2001), among others. In addition to writing books, Nesbitt has also written lyrics for the group Eric Herman and the Invisible Band. His lyrics are included on the CDs What a Ride (2007), Snail’s Pace (2007), Snow Day (2006), Monkey Business (2005), and The Kid in the Mirror (2003). Nesbitt’s poems have appeared in hundreds of anthologies, magazines, and textbooks worldwide, and were included on the television show “Jack Hanna’s Wildlife Adventures.” Nesbitt is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. His website, Poetry4kids, is an online “Funny Poetry Playground” that features poems, lessons, games, and poetry-related activities. A presentation by Antonio Davidson-Gómez Thursday, May 15, 2014, 7 PM, Richland Public Library Hosted by James & Doris Kelly What’s in a pop song? There are stories that run deeper than catchy lyrics might suggest. The instruments, the language, the style – even a song’s structure can show us how ideas and experiences are traded between diverse communities. In this hands-on experience, participants will play instruments from U.S. Latino and Latin American traditions and literally “connect the dots” on a map to see how Latinos have contributed to popular music in the U.S. We’ll explore typically “Latin” styles such as salsa, Tejano and reggaetón as well as Latina and Latino’s integral contributions to rock ’n’ roll, hip-hop and country.

Maurice John Vaughn is a true blues original. A triple threat on guitar, saxophone and vocals, Vaughn writes powerful, innovative and often humorous songs that spring directly from his vast musical experience. His soulful and passionate vocals are convincing because they are earned — Vaughn means what he sings. Coming out of the streets of Chicago, Vaughn was raised on Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf, black Top 40 and James Brown. Like the greats who have come before him, he has incorporated his various influences into a blues and R&B style that is completely his own.

Modern acoustic. Singer/songwriter. Contemporary folk. Carl Tosten is a musician whose style defies easy classification. With his strong and soulful voice and an eclectic & expressive guitar technique that includes percussion, tapping, multiple open tunings and capos, Tosten has been called an “acoustic one-man band.” His introspective and thoughtful lyrics speak to us individually as well as collectively with his observations on society, the complexities of living and love. Classical and jazzy overtones elevate his original compositions to a level more sophisticated than simply “folk,” and his live performances are filled with intense energy, stories, and songs that captivate and inspire his audience.

Paul Basile is the frontman and primary songwriter of the acclaimed Brooklyn band Great Elk, who recently released their debut LP Autogeography. With a striking voice - at times a delicate whisper and at times a brave, vocal weapon - Paul Basile writes "rustic rock anthems worthy of Band of Horses or My Morning Jacket". It is rare to find someone who can sing and write in such prose, while preserving the raw experience of the American man. Like the ballads of Ray LaMontagne, the songs are strong, emotional and stirring

The play takes place on Labor Day weekend in the joint backyards of two middle aged widows. One house belongs to Flo Owens who lives with you two daughters, Madge and Millie, and a boarder who is a spinster school teacher.

The other house belongs to Helen Potts, who lives with her elderly and invalid mother. Into this atmosphere comes a young man named Hal Carter . Whose animal vitality upsets the entire group.. Flo is sensitive to the temptations Hal poses for her daughters. Her concerns are justified because both daughters are who are awaking and bored with their lives.

Few writers have captured women in their social environments as William Inge and it is in this respect that "PICNIC" , which won the Pulitzer Prize in 1953, retains it's power..
