Under the wraps of an anti-romantic comedy, Modern Romance tackles a very serious issue of the contemporary society: the impulse that drives some people to ruin everything that is good in their lives only to create drama. But unlike the ubiquitous conflict junkies in the scripted “reality television” series, film editor Robert Cole (Albert Brooks) tries to mend his unhealthy on-again, off-again love cycle with Mary Harvard (Kathryn Harrold) by putting himself in comical situations and dialogues, only to reveal how vulnerable he is. Either making a date with a woman he cannot remember or buying stuff he doesn’t need just to take up running, Robert builds one joke on top of another, but ends up overwhelmed by his fears when he finally gets the courage to face his love again. Special guest - Modern Romance will be introduced by Michael Mays, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Professor of English at WSU Tri-Cities, who has written extensively about the film’s director, co-writer, and star, Albert Brooks.

Michael Paul Miller creates oil paintings that explore the sublime nature of existence through post--apocalyptic environments. However, while employing elements that suggest death, disaster and desolation, Miller does not abandon hope or beauty. Rather, he delicately balances the two extremes, allowing for open--ended inquiry into the human condition. As a result, the work often addresses a range of contemporary issues. The images contained in the paintings are sourced from multiple direct and indirect references, including observation, imagination, memory, subconscious thought, literature, film, and art history. The visual sources are conflated, recontextualized, altered, and translated into paint though a long studio process that often takes month to complete. Miller is moved by the power and versatility of oil paint and uses traditional techniques in creating his work. He uses a dark, rich, color palette for the subdued tones of the distressed atmosphere, which contrast sharply with the bright, often cautionary, colors that break through the darkness with alarming beauty. April 29 Artist Talk at 1pm followed by Closing Reception at 2pm Gallery Hours: Monday-Thursday, 8 AM-8:30 PM Friday, 8 AM-12 PM Saturday- Sunday, CLOSED

A demonstration of radiological monitoring equipment will be provided by the Washington State Department of Health.
The presentation is intended to provide a basic understanding of radiological terms and effects:
• Types, sources and pathways of ionizing radiation.
• Ways radiation is measured and the units that are used.
• Potential exposed to radiation from the different sources.
• Radiation regulatory limits and the concept of as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA). How individual dose vary widely from background and medical exposure.
• The cancer risk associated with radiation, including the interactions between factors that can lead to greater risk and act as risk magnifiers. The linear dose response prediction that cancer risk is present at even extremely low doses will be discussed.
• Differing views on the risks of radiation. Cancer risk is proportional to the exposure and occupational limits are set at ALARA levels to minimize the risk of cancer in comparison to other risks.

Until you have seen Scott Pemberton play the guitar it is hard to describe what he does. His music comes from the heart, is very danceable and quite honestly, no one plays the guitar like him. He gets regular comparisons to other great musicians such as Jimi Hendrix, Dick Dale, and James Brown, but after a brief listen it is clear that Scott has something all his own.

CATS, America's Favorite Family Musical, is Coming to the Mid-Columbia

Richland, Washington - March 13, 2015. The show that revolutionized musical theatre is coming to the Tri-Cities for six performances. Produced by Mid-Columbia Musical Theatre, this is a collaborative performance with Mid-Columbia Ballet featuring 28 singers, 22 dancers, and 34 tappers. Together with a fantastical oversized set, inspired choreography, and mischievous costumes, CATS is a brilliant song and dance spectacular not to be missed.

Tickets are on sale now and may be purchased at online at mcmt.tix.com or by phone at (509) 947-0562. Tickets may also be purchased in person in Richland at Adventures Underground in the Uptown Shopping Center and at the Tri-Cities Academy of Ballet and Music on Aaron Drive.

Based on T.S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, and with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, CATS is set at the annual reunion of the Jellicle cats at the Jellicle Ball. Old Deuteronomy, the wise and benevolent leader of the cats, makes the Jellicle choice and announces which of them will go up to the Heaviside Layer and be reborn into a new Jellicle life. Winner of seven Tony Awards including Best Musical, CATS features 20 of Andrew Lloyd Webber's greatest melodies, including the popular hit "Memory."

CATS is a musical theatre phenomenon. Since its opening, it has been presented in over thirty countries and has been seen by over 73 million people. CATS is one of the longest running musicals in the history of British theatre, playing 21 years in its West End run. CATS is also one of the longest running musicals on Broadway at more than 18 years. Not to be overlooked is CATS' status as the longest continuously touring show in American theatre history. And now CATS is back! A revival production opened in London's West End in December of 2014. While no opening season has been set, Andrew Lloyd Webber stated earlier this year that CATS will have a Broadway revival.

MCMT's CATS performance dates are April 10, 11, 12 and April 17, 18, 19 at the Richland High School Auditorium. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30PM and Sunday matinees are at 2:00PM. Tickets are $10 for children 12 and under and students with ID, $18 for seniors 60 and up, and $20 for adults. High school and college students with student ID save 50% on Student Night - April 9 at 7:30 PM. This students-only performance is not open to the

Through this, her ninth CD, singer, songwriter, pianist and guitarist Jill Cohn continues her musical journey to find the good stuff within the oft-harsh lessons of life and love. A poet with insights steeped in hope and faith, on “Beautiful I Love You” Cohn finds much humor in life’s difficulties but not in a Pollyanna sort of way by any means. Cohn’s expressions of her spirit are bittersweet and sometimes wry but always with so much realness that she can make you feel better if only by singing your pain. Rest assured: Cohn’s music will lift you up - Tacoma Weekly

“Till the Wheels Fall Off” ain’t just an album title. It’s a way of life. And the Outlaw Carnie responsible for it ain’t no character. BOB WAYNE is 100% the real deal: a raucous, rambunctious, storytelling rabble-rouser with a passionate zeal for life and a reckless charm that is completely unbound. Conquering the interstates behind the wheel of his real-life ‘70s Cadillac limo while surrounded by a revolving gang of sweaty banjo bangers, fiddle scorchers and upright bass slappers, BOB WAYNE carries the torch for the Outlaw Country tradition with a modern punkabilly snarl all of his own. The rampaging troubadour has left a trail of devastated dive bars, broken hearts and one-night stands across the United States and Europe. BOB’s incredible catalog of home recordings, studio outings and zip-lock-baggied CDs sold from his trunk have all finally culminated into a pair of landmark releases with People Like You Records that encapsulate and capture just what his life’s work has been about. There’s no better place to hear BOB than the road, but the Nashville based country singer’s “Outlaw Carnie” and newest collection of tunes, “Till the Wheels Fall Off”, come a close second. BOB writes songs that paint vivid pictures of real life, with an overall atmosphere befitting the rowdy carnival ride conjured in his presentation.

Tri-Cities Prep High School presents a world premiere musical exploring Ireland's tragic rebel history scored with traditional Irish music. ALL PROCEEDS BENEFIT TRI-CITIES PREP PERFORMING ARTS "This is Ireland." -Grace Gifford, Act One Scene 1 "Summon your strength, boys. For tomorrow we are messengers." -Patrick Pearse, Act One Scene 8 The all-new musical GUNS OF IRELAND tells the story of two hauntingly similar rebellions, the Wexford Rebellion of 1798 and the Easter Rising of 1916. On one side, the reluctant but brilliant general Father John Murphy leads his friends and allies against a British Empire still aching from a defeat in the Americas. On the other, the poet Joseph Plunkett casts his lot with a group of rebels against the wishes of his childhood sweetheart, Grace Gifford. Both rebellions are doomed to fail, but not before the British are forced to learn a hard lesson about the indomitability of the Irish people. Featuring a musical score that will make you laugh, cry, clap your hands and stamp your feet, GUNS OF IRELAND pays respect to the relentless courage and unquenchable joy that is uniquely Irish. Over the course of the show you will enjoy time-honored favorites such as "Danny Boy" and "Whiskey in the Jar," as well as powerful traditional songs like "The Parting Glass" and "The West's Awake." GUNS OF IRELAND also features a brand-new song, "Statue of Me," which was composed and written by Nina Powers and Jeff Payne, and which pays homage to the unsung heroes of history: the Irish women, mothers, sisters, and daughters who were all too often left behind to carry on in the wake of tragedy. At once thematically universal and intimately local, GUNS OF IRELAND represents a theatrical experience that is a first of its kind. It was written and produced in Tri-Cities, WA, and has benefited from the contributions of Tri-Cities Prep School, Columbia Basin College, The Tri-City Herald, Red Lion Hotels, and many, many more. Beautiful, heartrending, hopeful and tragic, GUNS OF IRELAND celebrates the universal bonds of friendship, the agony of lost love, and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of overwhelming odds.

This students-only performance is not open to the
general public.
