Fusion, funk, r&b, soul, blues, and jazz. I love it all, love to play it all, and sometimes fuse them all together. I currently reside in the city of Kennewick, Washington, part of what is known as the Tri-Cities. And so here comes the necessary and shameless self promotion. I have several decades of experience playing in large and small venues throughout the United States and other parts of the world. I have shared the stage with people like Hoyt Axton, the Guess Who, Joe Williams, Kenny Rogers, Crow, Gene Harris, and many others. I have played in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Montreal, Seattle, Boise, Boston, and Lake Tahoe, and many other cities.

Heaven's Cave Cellars has been hosting the annual DASH Race for the Kids, for the past eight years on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend in May on the grounds of the Prosser Wine & Food Park. The event benefits the Make The Dash Count Foundation and last year brought together more than 200 runners, walkers, bikers and other participants for a day of family fun and community building, more than doubling the attendance of previous years.

Three years ago we added a component to the event where businesses competed in a "BusinessTeam 5K Competition" to take home the "Traveling Trophy". This beautiful etched 3L wine bottle trophy was created by Fresh Northwest Design in Gig Harbor, WA. It has been on display at The Inn at Horse Heaven (last year's winners) over the past year. Your 4-Person team can be employees, friends or even members of your wine club.

We couldn't have done it without the generous support of our community.

This year, we'd like to truly make this event a "community building event" by involving as many businesses in our area as we can. We'd like to educate even more people about the work of The Make the DASH Count Foundation and the Columbia Valley Youth Board.

As you may know, the Make the DASH Count Foundation is committed to empowering our local youth to become the next generation of community leaders. We do this by engaging them in the process of philanthropy. High-school-aged students, led by an adult facilitator, participate in all stages of the grantmaking process, even making the final decisions about where to allocate funds. These grant monies go to deserving community programs serving at-risk youth in the Columbia Valley.

To make this year's DASH Race for the Kids successful, we like to ask for both your support and participation. Your donation will help us with set-up costs, event safety and facilitation of the day's planned activities.

The wait is about to come to an end. The defending Intense Conference champion Tri-Cities Fever returns to the Toyota Center on Friday night to play host to the Nebraska Danger in the 2013 home opener. Kickoff is 7:05 p.m. The Fever, with a roster filled with several new faces and some returning veterans, seeks its first win of the season against a Nebraska team that has impressed early on. Two weeks ago, the Fever dropped its season-opening game 42-38 to Colorado in a game that Tri-Cities (0-1) was decimated by injuries. On the other side, Nebraska is 2-0, having already beat defending IFL champion Sioux Falls two weeks ago, ending the Storm's 21-game win streak. Then last week, the Danger offense erupted in a 73-50 thumping of Colorado. "To me, they are the team to beat this season," said Fever coach Adam Shackleford. "They did a good job at putting together a talented roster; we will definitely see where we are at early on in the season." After the Colorado loss, Shackleford has been looking to fill gaps in his roster after an injury-riddled first game. Receiver Dejuan Miller, who had an impressive training camp and was expected to be one of the Fever's go-to receivers, hurt his foot prior to the season opener and is expected to be out at least a few more weeks. Receiver Ed Berry suffered a concussion against Colorado and is listed as probable for Friday's game. Running back Keola Antolin left the game against Colorado with an injured hand and has been placed on short term injured reserve. "Injuries really limit what you can do, but that's not an excuse," Shackleford said. "We have to make some adjustments and find ways to win football games." Injuries aside, Shackleford saw a lot of positives in his team's first game. One of them was quarterback Kasey Peters. Peters, in his first start, completed 23 of 43 passes for more than 200 yards. "I thought he played really well," Shackleford said. "We had a bunch of guys step up and play well, some better than we expected." The Fever returns to the Toyota Center where it was 6-1 last season, with their only setback was a 73-72 loss to Sioux Falls. Tri-Cities is 2-1 in season openers under Shackleford and has won its last two including a 70-44 win over Everett last season. "We are excited to come home and play in front of our fans,"Shackleford said. "I think we have the best fans in the IFL." - The Fever re-signed defensive back Dennis Rogan this week helping add some depth to the defensive backfield. Rogan, who was an all-Indoor Football League player in 2011, sat out last season with an injury. He was signed by the Fever in the off season and released before the season-opener against Colorado two weeks ago. Rogan, a former standout at the University of Tennessee, led the Fever with nine interceptions in 2011 to go with 66 tackles. He also had one forced fumble. He also was the Fever's top kick returner, averaged more than 20 yards per return and scored four touchdowns. - There are several promotions for Friday night's game including: Fan Appreciation Night sponsored by Mr. Rooter ... there will be Dollar Dogs brought to you by Lamb Weston and Franz Bakery ... 2013 schedule magnets are being handed out to the first 2500 fans through the door... Everyone 18 and older through the door receives a coupon for one free large, one-topping pizza from Papa Johns ... 2013 schedule posters will be handed out to the first 400 fans. In addition, the Fever will celebrate its 2012 season by raising the 2012 Intense Conference Championship banner. Back by high demand. IN NOVEMBER, 2011 Fruition released a new EP, It Won’t Be Long, the third album for the quintet based in Portland, Oregon. In seven original songs, Kellen Asebroek, Mimi Naja, and Jay Cobb Anderson conspire to blend raw, live energy with the strings of traditional folk-Americana. Supported by Keith Simon on upright bass, and Tyler Thompson on drums, Fruition succeeds with lyrical prowess, and harmonies as vibrant as they are heart-breaking. Tracks like “Wastin’ Away,” and “Bent,” showcase an effortless swing from whiskey-rock to shoe-stomp, from ballad to anthem and everywhere between. This versatility has defined the band since it began in 2008, and hundreds of shows later, Fruition now plays to an ever-growing fan-base in more than a dozen states, to electrified audiences and frenzied dance-floors. With a focus on the West Coast, Fruition has played most major venues in Portland (The Crystal Ballroom, The Roseland, The Wonder Ballroom, and the Doug Fir,) the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, the Mystic Theater in Petaluma, the Tractor Tavern in Seattle, and the Oregon Brewer’s Fest. The band headlined both late-night sets at Northwest String Summit in 2011. Through the years they’ve had the privilege to play with the likes of Vince Herman and Andy Thorne (Left Over Salmon), Jeff Austin (Yonder Mountain String Band), Zach Gill and Dan Lebowitz (ALO & Jack Johnson), Daniel Stern, and Danny Barnes. They continue to share the stage with some good friends, like Hot Buttered Rum, Greensky Bluegrass, Elephant Revival, Watertower Bucket Boys, the Quick & Easy Boys, the Clumsy Lovers, and Dead Winter Carpenters, to name a few. It Won’t Be Long was recorded and mixed by Tyler Thompson at the Woodshed Studio in Enterprise, OR, and mastered by Prince Elwood of Portland Underground Recording. The recording space was donated by the Wallowa Valley Music Alliance. Fans last heard from Fruition in 2010 with their full-length, self-titled album and on the 2010 PDX POP NOW compilation. Hawthorne Hoedown, their first EP, debuted in 2008.

Untill you have seen Scott Pemberton play the guitar it is hard to describe what he does. His music comes from the heart, is very dancable and quite honestly, no one plays the guitar like him. He gets regular comparisons to other great musicians such as Jimi Hendrix, Dick Dale and James Brown, but after a brief listen it is clear that Scott has something all his own. "Classic rock, jazz, psychedelia and everything in between collide and fuse around the notion of discovery that jumps with ease from the composer to the listener.... Pemberton is a multi genre master and a clever lyricist who can convey fun while digging deep" (Willamette Week) The infectiously postive music Scott creates has been creating waves in Portland and around the region, his most recent Portland show at the Doug Fir sold out well in advance and the numbers at his performances on tour are quickly growing.

Sacajawea Bluegrass Festival

Sacajawea Bluegrass Festival and Dutch Oven Rendezvous, Pasco, Washington June 7-9, 2013. Ten years of great food and the best music!

We have been very busy getting everything lined up. First, we are excited to finally release the names of the bands for 2013.

The Bands

From Ohio comes "NewFound Road", with Tim Shelton (guitar), Jr. Williams (banjo), Joe Booker (mandolin) and Jamey Booher on bass. NFR has been on the bluegrass scene since 2001, and have played with some greats.

Filling out the "roots" of the bluegrass tree comes perhaps the finest old-time music band in the country, "Foghorn Stringband". We have had this band here in the past, but with some new members, and a heavy cajun influence, the songs may be different, but the sound is still the fine FSB of years past. Caleb Klauder (mandolin, fiddle, guitar), Stephen "Sammy" Lind (fiddle, banjo, guitar), Nadine Landry (bass), Reeb Willms (guitar)

We were blown away by this new arrival to the northwest traditional bluegrass scene. "Kevin Pace and the Early Edition" consists of leader, Georgian Kevin Pace, who literally grew up on bluegrass and gospel music. Kevin has surrounded himself with some hot playing young musicians and the tight vocal harmonies show the work ethic of this band. Kevin Pace (mandolin), Christopher Arndt (banjo), Josh Robertson (guitar), Matthew Arndt(fiddle), Jim Adams (bass).

we were heart broken that one of our favorite northwest bands "Prairie Flyer" decided to go their own ways musically. They were our first featured band at our first festival in 2004. Guess what? They have agreed to come together and play one more weekend at our festival! Jim Faddis (guitar), Andre Vashon, (mandolin, dobro), Jason Stewart (banjo), Dave Hackwith (bass).

Our local favorite band "Top String" is going to round out the festival with tasteful and accomplished music that goes beyond their youthful years. Zach Top(guitar), Madi Top (fiddle), Joram Top (mandolin), Kaiti Dewhirst (bass).

Ticket Price Information

Pre-sale weekend passes, $25, at the gate weekend passes $35. You can either mail a check with ticket order form, and SASE to our mailing address, or order through Brown Paper Tickets. Age 15 and under are free if accompanied by an adult.

Camping is first come first served, and fees will be collected at the state park when you arrive. We have just learned that the new bathroom with showers may not be ready by the festival. We will have temporary showers available, and port-o-potties, or a short walk to flush toilets.

Dutch Oven Rendezvous Information

Join us for our next Dutch Oven activity at the SBF & DOR June 8, Sat. dinner hour at the Dutch Oven potluck. Share recipes with fellow cooks and sample each others victuals. In addition, the Fever will celebrate its 2012 season by raising the 2012 Intense Conference Championship banner. we were heart broken that one of our favorite northwest bands "Prairie Flyer" decided to go their own ways musically.

Ever since World's Finest formed in the winter of 2011, you'd be hard-pressed to find a more versatile and unique group of musicians anywhere in the NW. Blending ska, bluegrass, dub, punk and everything in between, this 5 piece Portland band has created a genre all their own, and has been steadily filling up dance floors and packing venues wherever they go. The diverse backgrounds of the different members really come to light in the varied, but truly authentic sound of the band's many compositions. Heartfelt love songs mingle with tales of life on the road and stories of everyday existence. Every time they step on stage, Chris Couch (guitar), Dan Hurley (banjo), Evan Malfer (upright bass), Mike Apodaca (drums), and Sean McLean (sax) project an undeniable energy and passion for their craft. Following up the success of their debut album 'Pattern', World's Finest is poised to release their new LP entitled '33'. Showcasing their wide variety of influences and abilities, excitement for this new recording has been building within the band and their ever-growing fan base. With a release date in November 2012, keep your eyes and ears open for the World's Finest name to start spreading across the country, as the band tours steadily in support of their new offering.

Updated Camping Information

For 2013, camping will be allowed as early as noon on Wednesday June 5, 2013. Campers must vacate by noon on Monday June 10. camping fees remain at $12.00 per night per vehicle.

Members get discounted weekend passes at the gate or ahead of time at Kennewick Ranch & Home or on-line at our website. Folks with something cooked in a Dutch Oven and participating bands are invited to the potluck.

Discover Pass Information

The discover pass is a $10 per day per vehicle ( or $30 per year) access fee charged at all Washington State Parks. This fee is not charged to those camping at the park. GOOD NEWS. As luck would have it, Washington State Parks has decided to designate Saturday June 8 and Sunday June 9 as FREE DAYS; no Discover Pass required.

Thank you to all of our sponsors, John and Wendy Top, , Randy and Janet Schuler, Artmil Design Studio, Chief's RV, , RDO Equipment, Bennett Rentals, clover Island Inn, Jim and Jan Delfel, Vern and Sharon Crow, and the many volunteers who help make this event happen. We couldn't do it without any of you!

And.....thanks to our loyal Bluegrass campers who make this such a fun event. Please keep coming back! We can't wait to see you again!
