72 Hour Film Challenge - 2025

Overview

The 72 Hour Film Challenge is a race against the clock. Test your skills as a storyteller by making a movie in just 3 DAYS! Our Student Division and Open Division are back this year, allowing filmmakers of all skill levels to participate in this creative challenge. Writing, filming, and editing must be completed within a 72-hour window beginning the evening of Thursday, October 2nd at 6 pm PT and ending Sunday, October 5th at 6 pm PT.

Don’t know what to film? The challenge includes prompts to build your movies around a specific theme, line of dialogue, a color for 1 prop, and a gesture (to be released at the online challenge kickoff). The rest is up to you. Entry is free, every submitted film is shown at the Tri-Cities International Film Festival, and is eligible for prizes to be awarded! You have nothing to lose (other than sleep). This short production period forces filmmakers not to get hung up on little things that can bog down the artistic process, often with outstanding results.
