Backcountry to the Cosmos: A Trekker’s Guide to the Northern Lights
February 26, 2026 6:45 PM –7:30 PM
Overview
Curious why the sun has been putting on such a show lately and why the northern lights seem to be dancing across our skies more often and more spectacularly? Join Dr. Elizabeth MacDonald, a heliophysicist with nearly 30 years of experience studying aurora throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond, for a presentation on February 26 hosted by the Intermountain Alpine Club (I-MAC). Dr. MacDonald will share what is behind the aurora’s recent uptick and how you can embark on a cosmic adventure of your own. She is the founder of Aurorasaurus, a global citizen-science project that brings together skywatchers and world-class outdoor photographers to track and understand auroral activity in real time.
Buy your ticket in advance on the I-MAC website. Limited tickets will be available at the door
